AUTOMATA at EuroMed2026 (2-4 November 2026)
Jointly organised by the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage – MNEMOSYNE at Cyprus University of Technology and Heritage Malta, the conference – held exclusively online – brought together researchers, cultural heritage professionals, museums, technology specialists and other participants to exchange knowledge and experience.
AUTOMATA Coordinator, Gabriele Gattiglia (University of Pisa), has participated in a workshop on 2 November 2026 focusing on “Why to digitise the Past in 3D?”. He presented the project, highlighting the challenges and risks faced in capturing 3D objects holistically. Beyond visual documentation, three-dimensional models can serve as spatial frameworks that connect, interrogate and reuse heterogeneous forms of archaeological evidence. AUTOMATA explores this potential for ceramic and lithic artefacts, combining AI-augmented robotics, high-resolution photogrammetry and non-invasive archaeometric analysis.
