AUTOMATA at EAA 2026
At the 2026 European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) annual meeting held last week in Athens, Ariane Menu (INRAP) presented a communication titled “AI, automation, and archaeology: practices, concerns, and perspectives from the community in light of the AUTOMATA project”.
Co-authored with Amala Marx and Kai Salas-Rossenbach (INRAP), the presentation highlighted key AI-related insights gathered from the comprehensive survey conducted by AUTOMATA in 2025. The discussion shed light on how the archaeological community currently perceives and interacts with robotics, automation and the role of AI, balancing practical applications with emerging ethical and technological concerns.
