The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI – IL)

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is Israel’s leading university as well as its premier research institution, consistently ranked among the 100 leading universities in the world.

Established in 1925, the work done over the years within HUJI campuses has led to breakthroughs in medical treatments, agricultural advancements, new perspectives in law, politics, economy and society, as well as pioneering technology. The university encourages multi-disciplinary activities in Israel and overseas and serves as a bridge between academic research and its social and industrial applications.

Archaeological research and teaching at HUJI began in 1926 and developed from a department into The Institute of Archaeology over the years. It was the only archaeological research and teaching institution until the 1960’s, making it the birthplace of Israeli archaeology. Excavation campaigns have been conducted by the Institute since the 1930’s and continue to this day, mostly in Israel yet expanding around the world.

The computational Archaeology Laboratory was established as part of the Institute of Archaeology by Prof. Leore Grosman in 2011 and was the first of its kind in Israel. Focusing on 3D modeling and data computation, including in-house development of archaeology-oriented software, the CompArch lab harnesses innovative technological methodologies to address traditional as well as new archaeological questions.
