AUTOMATA at CAA 2026 (Vienna, 31st March – 4th April 2026)

5 April 2026

Research conducted within the AUTOMATA project was presented at the CAA Conference, “Computer Applications in Archaeology: It’s All About People,” highlighting the project’s contribution to the use of advanced digital, robotic and AI-driven methods in archaeological research.

Under the title “Beyond the Instruments: AI-Driven Integration of Multisensor Data in Archaeometry”, Martina Naso from the University of Pisa and Nevio Dubbini from Miningful presented an AI-assisted workflow developed within the AUTOMATA project to integrate multisensor archaeometric data from non-destructive techniques. Based on the analysis of around 300 ceramic fragments using hyperspectral imaging, portable X-ray fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy, the presentation highlighted how AI can support data validation, quality assessment and the integration of complex spectral and compositional datasets. It also underlined the project’s commitment to developing FAIR-compliant data infrastructures for the long-term interoperability and reuse of archaeological research data.
