AUTOMATA at IEEE – ICRA 2026 (Vienna, 1-5th June 2026)
The AUTOMATA project was represented at the 2nd Workshop on e-Heritage and Robotics 2026, part of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation 2026, one of the world’s leading robotics conferences, by project coordinator Gabriele Gattiglia from the University of Pisa and Do Won Park from the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. The conference has taken place in Vienna on the 1-5th of June 2026.
What if archaeology meets robotics?
Under the title “Ἐγώ, αὐτόματη (I, AUTOMATA)”, Gabriele and Do presented the project’s innovative approach to the use of robotic tools for the advanced digitalisation of prehistoric ceramics and lithics. Their contribution illustrated the complex interactions between archaeological research, data collection, robotics and the growing role of artificial intelligence.
By bringing together archaeology, robotics and AI, AUTOMATA proposes a new way of looking at robotics and its potential for archaeological research, opening new perspectives for the documentation, analysis and interpretation of cultural heritage.
